News3EDINBURGH, UK - 16 December 2009 - The 3L Diamond tool suite now supports the EVP6472 multicore evaluation board from Texas Instruments.

The latest edition of 3L Diamond reaffirms its status as the simplest and most efficient way to develop applications for multiprocessor embedded systems by supporting the TMS320C6472.

This edition targets the EVP6472, an off-the-shelf multicore solution featuring two Texas Instruments TMS320C6472 Digital Signal Processors, giving a total of twelve on-board C64x+ cores.

3L Diamond users separate application design from implementation using a consistent model where communicating tasks are placed on processors (cores) connected by data-transfer mechanisms. Built-in device drivers support uniform communication between cores, whether on the same C6472 or on separate ones, and a virtual channel system ensures deadlock-free data routing between remote tasks when necessary.

By automatically managing the multicore shared memory and handling general housekeeping and complex cache issues, Diamond allows customers to concentrate on their applications rather than wasting time on low-level details. The easy access to any number of cores lets developers create applications quickly, and experiment with different design architectures simply by changing the placement of tasks on processors.

"Multicore devices offer the prospect of increased performance", says Peter Robertson, 3L's Managing Director, "but at the cost of greatly increased complexity and difficulties with shared resources. The strength of Diamond is that it handles these issues for you without compromising on efficiency".
